Transfer to Serengeti National Park with an en route stop at Olduvai Gorge with picnic lunch. Upon arrival to Serengeti, continue to camp with en route game drive.
Early this morning, begin the first game drive of the day. Serengeti is Tanzania's first national park and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site where over a million wildebeest famously migrate each year. The park's high concentration of wildlife also includes the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, black rhino, and buffalo), as well as cheetah, zebras, giraffes, gazelle, monkeys, and over 500 bird species. This morning's game drive will include breakfast out in the field. Return to the camp late in the morning and have lunch. Enjoy some free time to rest and relax before heading out for the midafternoon game drive. In the evening, gather around the campfire and have a discussion with your guide about the Great Migration in Tanzania.
Get an early start today and visit the Hippo Pools and then return to the lodge for breakfast. Continue exploring the Serengeti for the rest of the day with picnic lunch.
After an early breakfast, we'll travel several hours today toward Ngorongoro Crater; this sunken caldera is approximately 10 to 12 miles in diameter and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its important role in biodiversity conservation. Descend into the crater for a wildlife viewing drive amid one of the most unique concentrations of wildlife on earth for the rest of the day. Vast grasslands cover most of the crater floor and provide ample grazing for zebras, gazelles, wildebeest, elephants, warthogs, and the highly endangered black rhino. With such a large number of prey species contained within the crater, Ngorongoro is also home to a dense population of lions. Enjoy lunch in the crater. Early evening, continue to the hotel and check in.
Early in the morning, we will enjoy some birding at the lodge grounds and surrounding area. After breakfast, we will start our transfer to Karatu area, where we will stop for birding for some highland species. Afterwards, we will continue with our transfer to Tarangire National Park, an often overlooked park less than two hours from Arusha. The 1,100 square miles of protected lands are home to a large variety of animals, such as wildebeests, elephants, zebras, gazelles, elands, gerenuks, lions, and leopards. Extensive grasslands, dotted with acacias and the iconic baobab tree, provide the optimum conditions for viewing resident fauna. Bird enthusiasts will have the opportunity to see more than 500 avian species, including Yellow collared Lovebirds, Rufous tailed Weavers, Ashy Starlings, Common Ostriches, and Kori Bustards. We will enjoy a picnic lunch within the park today. Arrive to lodge late in the afternoon.
Continue exploring Tarangire National Park with a full day of wildlife-viewing drives. Tarangire is also home to a high density of iconic ancient baobab trees, and over 550 bird species. Time permitting, we will inspect the site for new camp.
Morning wildlife drive then transfer to Arusha with lunch at a local restaurant. Erick and Jorge will be transferred to the airport in time for their flights mid-afternoon (dayroom time permitting). Pelin & Raci will be transferred to the dayroom and then later in the evening to the airport for flight to Istanbul, TR.
