Marion Grzanowski's Adventures: The Dream Begins

Marion Grzanowski recently traveled to the Galápagos Islands and Machu Picchu with Road Scholar.  Day by day accounts of travels can be found at http://2012-gimp-adventure.blogspot.com/ The Journey Begins: In 1952 Marion Grzanowski considered himself a mere daydreamer.  Captivated by the photos he saw in his school textbooks, he wondered if these paradises were really as they seemed. Armed with the "first love of his life," his Kodak camera, Marion only hoped that these exotic locations would be the subjects of his lenses one day. At 8 years old the possibilities of the future were infinite.
Dreams...they included travel.  Would he ever go to these places he only saw in books? Better yet, visit and take his own photos?
Day One: Marion has now been married to Carol for 60 years.  With a desire to get out of a comfortable stateside lifestyle for a bit, Marion and Carol are planning to travel to South America.  On this journey they will be fulfilling their love of travel with two trips in one. They will first journey to the Galápagos Islands of Ecuador.  Next, they will travel to the mighty Machu Picchu of Peru. As they prepare for their flight into Quito, Marion and Carol experience the normal travelers' anxiety, but they are eager for the excitement that lay south.
If you're going to South America, why not make 2 stops?  Galápagos Islands, part of Ecuador, but 600 miles west in the Pacific Ocean.  Next, another one of those "bucket list" trips - Machu Picchu in Peru.

Photo of the Month: November 2025
Above: On the way to see baobab trees at sunset on the red dirt roads in the bush of Madagascar, we stopped as the young goat herders crossed directly in front of us, looking like majestic figures in the sunlit, dusty glow. It felt like the scene of a movie, and this photo captured the feeling of that moment perfectly.
