Share A Story 2015 Calendar Contest

Every year, Holbrook calls on our travelers to share their best photographs from their journey to be featured in our yearly calendar, and we are so excited to announce it’s that time of year again! We have officially started accepting applications for our 2015 calendar. With the array of destinations and programs we have offered over the years, we encourage you to share the highlights from your journey with Holbrook Travel, to Selva Verde Lodge, or during a Road Scholar program coordinated by Holbrook. Take this opportunity to share your stories and experiences with the Holbrook Travel community. We are seeking images that tell a story of what happened in that moment, what you were thinking, the emotions you experiences, and what impact the journey had. Along with any of the 12 months, your photograph and story could even be featured on the front cover! If your entry is chosen for our calendar, you will receive a 10.8 x 14.4 in. printed glass photo of your submission, as well as extra copies of the calendar to share with family and friends. If you miss the deadline or decide not to submit a photo, we hope you’ll consider sharing any blog posts, journals, videos, or any other documentation of your trip and what it meant to you. We would love to share your experiences with the Holbrook community to inform and inspire future travelers. Words cannot express the heart-stopping thrill of being close to such magnificent animals. They climbed trees, played together, swung on branches, and lunched on vines, all within mere yards of us. After this trip, I completely agree with John Hemingway: 'If I have ever seen magic, it has been in Africa.'" - Karen Hunt with Gustafson Photo Safari KarenHunt-TANZANIA-MAIN-Large-CMYK "This photo was taken during our third day in the Serengeti on a Gustafson Photo Safari, and although we had seen magnificent wildlife every day, we had only heard rumors of an uncommonly large pride of lions in the area. That morning, we stopped to photograph avocets in a stream when our guide pointed further up the road. There we saw one, then two, then three, then ten lions; walking single-file over the ridge, right toward us. We were the only safari vehicle for miles! The lions drank from the stream and then, still in single-file procession, settled onto the termite mound for a morning nap. It was utterly magical."- Karen Hunt with Gustafson Photo Safari SEP-Madagascar-Gustafson-BaobabTrees-HIRES "Madagascar's Avenue of the Baobabs truly has an otherwordly feel about it. This is a great example of people and nature coexisting in perfect harmony. The 800-year-old trees couldn't have been planted in a more beautiful configuration and every day, for generations, Malagasy people have used this road through the colossal baobabs. We made this out-of-the-way masterpiece of nature's art a destination on our Madagascar adventure. Our arrival coincided with a young woman carrying daily water home from the ponds near the baobabs." - Todd Gustafson, Gustafson Photo Safari  See 2014's entry winners and their stories See 2013's entry winners and their stories

Photo of the Month: November 2025
Above: On the way to see baobab trees at sunset on the red dirt roads in the bush of Madagascar, we stopped as the young goat herders crossed directly in front of us, looking like majestic figures in the sunlit, dusty glow. It felt like the scene of a movie, and this photo captured the feeling of that moment perfectly.
