This photo of a ring-tailed lemur—perhaps the most iconic of all lemurs—was taken during our stay at the Berenty Preserve.
These highly social primates spend their mornings basking in the sun before beginning their daily search for fruits and leaves. Each day, we were fortunate to have more than 50 of them climb over the roof of our room and spread out in the open area to warm up, giving us endless opportunities for close encounters. For this particular shot, I lay flat on my belly and inched forward until I could use a 10mm lens, creating an exaggerated perspective that highlighted the charm of these medium-sized lemurs.
We also had the chance to explore the VOIMMA Park, a private reserve near Andasibe-Mantadia National Park. Along the trails we encountered several chameleon species, but this male Parson’s chameleon was by far the largest. We were especially surprised to find them thriving in such cool, rainy conditions.
