Marion Grzanowski's Adventures: Galápagos and Machu Picchu Days 6 & 7

Marion Grzanowski recently traveled to the Galápagos Islands and Machu Picchu with Road Scholar.  A day by day account of his travels can be found at 2012-gimp-adventure.blogspot.com Read days 4 & 5 here. Day 6: At Santa Fe Island, day six involves cacti, sharks and iguanas.  The morning proves to certainly be an adventurous one. The afternoon itinerary includes Plaza Sur Island.  There are more cacti and iguanas to be observed.  Plaza Sur is also a bird watcher's paradise, as it has many types of birds like the Red-billed Tropicbirds and the frigate birds.
Even the iguanas were not afraid of us walking near.
Day 7: This morning Marion and the group visit the Charles Darwin Research Station on Santa Cruz Island.  They learn about the station's conservation efforts and get to observe giant tortoises at many different ages and sizes.

The group ventures into the drastically different vegetation zone of the highlands of Santa Cruz in the afternoon.  Nestled in the Scalesia forest are the twin pit craters, which are large sinkholes.  Amidst the craters are beautiful views from the surrounding forest.   Road Scholar program #18484 http://www.roadscholar.org/n/program/summary.aspx?id=1%2D4U6DQR Days 2 & 3     Days 0 &1

Photo of the Month: November 2025
Above: On the way to see baobab trees at sunset on the red dirt roads in the bush of Madagascar, we stopped as the young goat herders crossed directly in front of us, looking like majestic figures in the sunlit, dusty glow. It felt like the scene of a movie, and this photo captured the feeling of that moment perfectly.
