who we are

Philanthropy

The term traveler’s philanthropy describes the time, talent, and financial resources that visitors are often moved to share with their host region and its people. Holbrook Travel helps to guide travelers’ philanthropic interests to make sure they are both sustainable and effective within the community or environment, and that contributions directly benefit those they are meant to help.

Giving back.

Broadly speaking, we may help connect willing travelers with organizations that need volunteers, or provide appropriate information to those wishing to make donations. In more structured ways, Holbrook continuously seeks to enable our travelers in directly assisting the local communities we visit.

Sarapiqui Conservation Learning Center

To that end, Holbrook is the proud founder of the Sarapiquí Conservation Learning Center, which is dedicated to conservation, education and community development in north central Costa Rica. Since 1993, the contributions of this non-profit have provided the region with economic development opportunities, ESL studies, and environmental stewardship direction.

Partnerships

Through partnerships with organizations such as the Sarapiquí Conservation Learning Center, the CREST Foundation, Friends of Serengeti, and the International Galápagos Tour Operators Association, Holbrook informs its standards for responsible travel and ensures that the best intentions of Holbrook’s global travelers are also in the best interest of global recipients

What you can do to help.

By coordinating with our partners in philanthropy, travelers can give their help where it is needed most by making a direct impact on the destinations they visit. Below are a few ways you can make a difference on your next trip

Pack for a Purpose

We are proud members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travelers like you to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination. If you save just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and take supplies for area schools or medical clinics in need, you’ll make a priceless impact in the lives of our local children and families.

Pack for a Purpose has projects in destinations across the globe, but for those of you traveling to our very own Selva Verde Lodge & Rainforest Reserve, click here to see what supplies are needed in the SCLC community center.

American Birding Association

Holbrook Travel is a long-time advocate of the ABA Birders’ Exchange program that enables students, birding guides, researchers, educators and conservationists to receive donated optics. The equipment enhances awareness of birds and empowers local people to make wise conservation decisions. Contact 800-850-2473 or email bex@aba.org at least 3 weeks prior to your travel date so there will be time to ship the equipment to you. A pair of binoculars in the hands of a young person can change their world! ABA will ship to you and make the arrangements for delivery once in-country.

The Holbrook Explorer

Photo of the Month: November 2025
Above: On the way to see baobab trees at sunset on the red dirt roads in the bush of Madagascar, we stopped as the young goat herders crossed directly in front of us, looking like majestic figures in the sunlit, dusty glow. It felt like the scene of a movie, and this photo captured the feeling of that moment perfectly.
