After a bit of an AIR delay, well, fog delay actually, I am finally in Cusco!
A UNESCO World Heritage site, the city of Cusco has an incredible history, architecture unlike no other and great art! I love this city the Inkas called the navel of the world!
I was picked up at the airport by Pilar and Eddie, my guide from October, and it was wonderful to see a friendly face! We then transfer to the hotel.
Since I arrived late and missed some activities, I transferred to the hotel for some free time. I decided to go to the Main Square and have a look around. The churches here are fantastic, the Iglesia de Compañia, the Cathedral of Santo Domingo and Compañia de Jesus. Spanish architecture built over Inca foundations. The Koricancha Temple and Cathedral of Santo Domingo, known as the Temple of the Sun, is probably the most spectacular and revered building in Cusco. An earthquake in 1950 brought down the old walls of the Spanish construction revealing the Incan foundation below that survived unscathed and intact.
Walking through the streets, the sun was bright over black and grey clouds as it started to rain a little, and then hailed a bit. After a few minutes, the sun came back out and a beautiful sunset took over. After a bite to eat, I made my way back to the hotel among the work crowd and traffic.
I had dinner at Inka Grill with the group and then went off to bed.
