Tarangire

Aug 1, 2024

Today, spend the morning and afternoon on wildlife-viewing drives in Tarangire National Park. The Tarangire ecosystem is the third largest in Tanzania, sprawling over a vast 7,700 square miles. Seasonally, the park supports the second largest concentration of wildlife in Tanzania, surpassed only by the Serengeti during peak migration. However, Tarangire is most famous for its huge numbers of African Elephants that congregate along the meandering Tarangire River. Other mammals likely to be seen include the stately waterbuck, impala, comical warthog, and giraffe. During this time of the year, animals migrate into the park from surrounding areas to drink near the rivers, which makes wildlife spotting optimal.

Ngorongoro

Aug 2, 2024

Start the morning with some more wildlife-viewing drives, and then depart for Ngorongoro Lions Paw Lodge. Located on the crater rim, the lodge offers breathtaking views of this natural wonder. Marvel at one of the most unique concentrations of wildlife on earth. Vast grasslands cover most of the crater floor and provide ample grazing for resident zebras, gazelles, wildebeest, elephants, warthogs, and rhinos. With a large number of prey species contained within the crater, it is not surprising that Ngorongoro is also home to a dense population of lions.

Central Serengeti

Aug 3, 2024

Early this morning, descend into the crater with a boxed breakfast. Watch as the flora opens to grassy plains throughout the crater floor and enjoy the spectacular scenery and game viewing in what has been described as the eighth wonder of the world. The crater is home to many species of wild game and birds. Almost every species of African plain mammal lives in the crater, including the endangered black rhino; however, impalas and topi are not present due to fierce competition with the wildebeest, and neither are giraffes, because there is not much to eat at tree level here. Later, continue to Serengeti National Park and enjoy more wildlife-viewing drives en route. In the late afternoon, arrive at Suenos de Africa Luxury Camp located in Central Serengeti. This camp features luxury suite tents with comfortable bedding and private bathrooms.

Later, depart toward Manyara for an afternoon wildlife-viewing drive or nature walk. The Lake Manyara Serena Lodge is strategically located on the edge of the western escarpment of the Rift Valley, which offers views across Lake Manyara. This area is excellent for bird watching; look for flamingos, pelicans, herons, spoonbills, ibis, eagles, mousebirds, hornbills, kingfishers, barbets, woodpeckers, swallows, flycatchers, starlings, sunbirds, weavers, and rollers.
