Iceland | An Active Adventure for Friends and Family

About this trip

Carved by glaciers, volcanoes, rivers, and tectonic forces, Iceland’s rugged terrain is the perfect setting for adventure, and this itinerary is designed with active travelers in mind! Experience the country’s dramatic landscapes from a unique perspective as you explore by foot, kayak, ATV, snowmobile, and more. See classic highlights, like the Blue Lagoon and the famed Golden Circle, as well as more off-the-beaten-path attractions, like the headline-making Fagradalsfjall Volcano, which erupted in March 2021 and continues to emit fresh lava.
For even more adventure, optional additional days can be added to your itinerary: extend your stay with a day of snorkeling and river rafting, and/or a day of horseback riding and a visit to the sleek new Sky Lagoon.

Day 3

Start the day early your tour of the dormant Þríhnúkagígur volcano - a unique natural phenomenon. To be able to experience this wonder, all you need is the willingness to do a moderate 45-50 minute hike (to get to the crater) and then descend 400 feet to the bottom of the crater in an open cable lift. The hike to the volcano is an integral part of the tour, not only because of the breathtaking scenery, but also because it's one of only two ways of getting to the base of the volcano. A light soup lunch will be included today. Following your time at the volcano, you will be transferred back to bus stop #1. This afternoon take a 5 minute walk to the Harpa, one of Reykjavík's most striking landmarks and a center of cultural and social life in the heart of the city. This is where you will meet for your Reykjavik Food Tour, which starts at 4:00 pm - one of the best "foodie" experiences in the country. Best to arrive 10-15 minutes early. The Reykjavik Food Tour begins by the main entrance of Harpa Concert Hall, which is easy to find and very centrally located. Following the tour, you will find your way back to your hotel on own.

This afternoon set sail a 3-3.5 hour whale watching tour. Grab a pair of the thermal overalls before heading to the top deck, or choose to grab a cup of coffee or hot chocolate at the on-board cafe. Your guide will share their knowledge about the wildlife you might encounter on Faxaflói Bay - not to mention all the spectacular nature that surrounds you when out on the bay. The whales you might encounter in the area are humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins and harbor porpoises.
