Day 2

Zion is one of the most iconic national parks of the great American Southwest for a reason; the 124,000-acre park is a stunning maze of deep sandstone canyons, mountains, clear rivers, colorful mesas, narrow slot canyons, prominent monoliths, and high plateaus covered with pine forests. Zion contains evidence of at least 8,000 years of human occupation. It was named by pioneer members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the 1860s; Zion is a Hebrew word for sanctuary. The park offers a wide range of hiking opportunities for every experience level, from easy to strenuous. While in the park, we will use the park shuttle, which will allow us to hop off as often as we like. Depending upon the interests and activity level preference of each member of our group, we can divide into smaller groups to make the most of our time at Zion. Lunch will be at the Red Rock Grill (or a picnic lunch). Later in the day, return to LaFave and enjoy stunning Zion views from the patio.

This three- to five-hour trek is moderately strenuous and is not recommended for those with a fear of heights. The trail begins in the valley and ascends along a series of switchbacks, topping out on a tower with steep drop-offs and amazing 360-degree views.
