BIRDS OF BELIZE AND TIKAL with Friends of the Bosque del Apache NWR
Feb 20-28, 2010

Belize: This small country, nestled between Mexico and Guatemala, has a Caribbean flavor that makes this former British colony unique in Central America. In addition to its rich Mayan history, Belize boasts a variety of unspoiled natural habitats. Among its many treasures are 250 varieties of wild orchids, 500 species of birds, and incredible ecological features and nature preserves. Conservation is a key issue to the country as Belize makes great strides in protecting these national treasures. This 9-day program invites you to explore the diverse terrain of this tropical paradise. Price includes $690 airfare from Albuquerque, based on 12 participants.

Note: Participants must be in good health and should be prepared for hiking and climbing at a moderate pace in hot, humid weather. Most hikes are 2-3 hours in length and this may equate to walking approximately 2-5 miles per day, sometimes over uneven or muddy terrain. Climbing the temples at Tikal is equivalent to climbing six flights of stairs in a day.
