Rich Educational Content - Real World Science
Expand your students' science and cultural experience beyond the traditional
classroom. On-staff educators design each Holbrook program with the national
academic standards in mind. The goal of each course is to learn by experience.
Each program is facilitated by an expert in-country guide and incorporates the
following types of educational programming where possible:
- Site lectures by local experts
- Hands-on/Minds-on activities
- Data Collection/Observation
In fact, our programs are so content-rich that students have been able to ear
academic credit from schools that offer out-of-school study programs. Talk with
your school to find out if this option is available to you.
Customized Programs
We offer several interest-oriented programs already carefully plannd and fine-tuned.
Or we can work with you to design your own personalized program. If you have an idea
for an academic travel program, our team of specialists can make it happen.
Creative Itineraries
Explore lesser-known areas unavailable to the casual traveler. We use our contacts to
connect you with local naturalists, non-profits, local students and educators, and other
community leaders. Our programs feature lessons on nature, cultural enrichment, conservation
and ecology. Whether you're touring the forest canopy of Costa Rica's Monteverde Cloud Forest
or viewing large game in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya, our programs combine adventure,
exploration and discovery.
Knowledgeable Staff
Holbrook's academic team consists of both educators and travel professionals, in order to
identify and serve your needs. This team works together to design the most hands-on, in-depth
study programs to important ecological and sociological destinations across Latin America and
Africa.
Value Oriented
Tailoring a field experience to your specific needs does not mean that you must sacrifice affordability
for quality. We offer high quality programs at value-packed prices. All accommodations, meals and
transportation are carefully evaluated to make sure you receive the best service possible at specially
negotiated prices. Our experienced staff is happy to work with you on an individual basis to create an
itinerary that meets your needs and budget. Educators who lead academic groups in the field earn complimentary
air and land accommodations. Talk with your Educational Program Consultant for details, 888-890-6562.
Safety First
Holbrook is committed to providing educational learning opportunities that puts the safety of our participants
above all else. Our thirty years of experience gives us a sound background and knowledge in risk management.
History and Experience in Academic Field Expeditions
For 30 years, Holbrook has endeavored to offer the wonders of the world to educators and students from across
the country. In 1974 one of the first natural history tours to the Galápagos Islands was arranged and led by
co-founder Giovanna Holbrook. Since then, Holbrook has led more than 25,000 students to the far reaches of the world.
Environmental Responsibility and Cultural Awareness
All Holbrook programs strive to support community conservation projects, educate travelers about environmental issues
at hand, support sustainable environmental tourism and provide participants with the opportunity to contribute to the
preservation of the local environment. In an effort to further this support in Chilamate, Costa Rica, Holbrook opened
the Selva Verde Lodge, established a 500-acre rainforest reserve, and started the Sarapiquí Conservation Learning Center,
a non-profit. Here are other ways we care about our world:
Our Programs Support Environmental Advocacy
- We support local conservation projects and non-governmental organizations that are at work in the local community
- We educate our travelers about environmental issues on a local and global level
- We support community based conservation programs advancing the cause of conservation locally and internationally
- We support sustainable environmental tourism by carefully selecting and monitoring the locations that we utilize
for environmental responsibility and impact
- We provide our travelers with the
opportunity to contribute to the preservation of the local
environment through conservation service projects in conjunction
with the local community.
Our Programs Create Global Citizens
- We foster meaningful and respectful
exchanges between participants and the local community
- We provide participants with the
opportunity to assist the communities/schools that they visit
through service projects
- We support local economies through our
selection of locally owned lodging and service providers
- We support community based conservation
and education initiatives
