Join GSA as we head to Africa this summer. Your travels will take you east as the scenery changes from shipwrecks to the Etosha National Park home to a variety of Africa’s icons of mammals and birds.

Traveling south you will encounter the Namib Desert’s impressive sand dunes. With Namibia's unparalleled scenery and deep discussions on the principles of earth science at work, your travels in Africa will leave you with lasting memories and teachable moments for a lifetime.

Slideshow of Namibia

  • Visit the world class Nama Aged Fossil Sites On the Zebra River where Stromatolitic Carbonate Reefs include examples of some Of the oldest fossils Of hard skeleton animals known in the world
  • Explore the 20 million year old fossilized dunes at Tsondab, some of the highest sand dunes in the world
  • Drive through the Namib Desert where evidence exists that hyper arid cimates have existed in cycles over the last 40 million years in route to Swakopmund
  • Visit the Bull's Party for spectacular granite weathering of the post Karoo aged Erongo Mountains Igneous Complex
  • Examine the ancient Welwitschia Plants some thought to be as old as to 2000 Years old
  • Explore Glacial Striations of the early Gondwana Karroo Ice Sheets and spectacular Isoclinal Folding of the Ugab River Turbidities during visit to Brandberg
  • Journey to Twylfelfontein where you will visit the Organ Pipes which are actually hexagonal joints in a post Karoo Dolerite
  • Study the Burnt Mountain's Contact Metamorphic in shales colored red and purple
  • Plus visit a Petrified Forest, explore the small coastal geologically rich Swakop and view large African game at Halali Camp in Etosha
