Itinerary
There is good reason why Costa Rica is one of the most beloved countries on the planet - with millions of incredibly beautiful natural areas, preserved by the government - there are hundreds of reasons to visit this gorgeous country. The incredible orchids to be found - cultivated and in the wild - is one of them. This tour is designed to learn as much as possible in 5 days in the country - making it fit well into a busy schedule. Visit during the middle of March, when your tour will also include an afternoon at the annual Orchid Show in San José.
- Learn of the many facets of a premier, international wholesale orchid nursery - ORCHIMEX - from the Thai & German owners that have over 30 years of experience in the industry.
- "I've just got to have that orchid!" - have the opportunity to pick from a wide array of orchids for sale at the Botanical Orchid Garden wholesale nursery.
- Let owner Javier Solorzano Murillo take you through his stunning private gardens, begun in 1941, featuring an extensive collection of amazing orchid species on display, including Costa Rica's national flower - Guaria morada.
- "Behind the scenes" with the director of the famous Lankester Gardens, which features 26 acres of gardens, home to nearly 3,000 species, and featuring epiphytic flora, especially orchids, and associated with the University of Costa Rica.
- Enjoy the Cloud Forest eco-system at Bosque de Paz Biological Reserve - over 3000 acres of lush, gorgeous, and important forest awaits you.
- Selva Verde Rainforest Reserve gives you the opportunity to experience primary rainforest at its best, with local guides who share with you their love of the forest and all its flora and fauna. Enjoy lunch at the lodge along the whitewater Rio Sarapiqui.
