 Itinerary
 
Day 1      San José
  • Arrive in time to relax in Costa Rica’s capital city

Day 2-7      Tortuguero

  • Set out on an exciting boat journey through canals leading to Tortuguero
  • Actively investigate some 300 species of birds in the area with a research scientist
  • See resident birds like tiger herons, toucans, hummingbirds and sun bitterns
  • Watch for migrating species such as raptors, flycatchers, and warblers
  • Research techniques used include mist-netting, walking transects, and point-counts in a variety of settings
  • Enjoy leisure time in the afternoon – hike Cerro Tortuguero, visit the village, or catch up on reading

Day 8      San José

  • Board a light aircraft bound for San José
  • Spend the afternoon seeing city-sights – the National Museum of Costa Rica, the Jade Museum, the National Gallery of Contemporary Art, or the city's largest central park, Parque Nacional.
