Holbrook's Explorer Series for Students
An Amazonian Odyssey in Brazil's Rainforest

This itinerary maximizes the chance to observe wildlife offering the opportunity to study the major habitat types in Amazonia, on both the Rio Negro and the Amazon River. Explore a pristine wilderness area on the Rio Negro examining the igapó, or black water, flooded forest and also the terre firme, or high forest. Voyage to the Amazon River to examine the flooded environment known as varzea. Spend the days immersed in the forest while at night the boat will reposition in order to have a new place to explore. In the city of Manaus, accommodations in a central location provide easy access to hictoric sites and museums. The overall framework of the program will be the observation and description of key Amazon environments and the flora and fauna that inhabit them. There will be several excursions off the vessel every day into the forest as well as a daily water sampling laboratory with recording in the field notebooks. At your request, upon confirmation we can provide a suggested curriculum for the program.
