Dear Science Educator,
As
the National Science Teachers Association affirms the importance of
international collaboration and vibrantly encourages professional development
opportunities for science educators to experience first-hand the culture and
related science found in other parts of the world, Holbrook is proud to offer
An
Introduction to Global Inquiry and Investigation: A Costa Rican Field Study
as an official NSTA affiliated program.
We invite you to explore and experience a most unique educational adventure set
in one of the greatest classrooms on earth – the tropical rainforests of Costa
Rica! As it is located in the heart of Central America, Costa Rica offers an
incredible diversity of ecosystems for you to explore. Home to over 600 species
of butterflies, over 850 species of birds, and 205 species of mammals, Costa
Rica has all the ingredients necessary for a perfect outdoor classroom!
The design of this program will highlight active scientific research with
instructional applications. Throughout the program, the thread of cultural
exchange and service will be applied offering a multi-dimensional approach to
learning. Leading scientific experts in the field will share their knowledge
and actively engage you in their cutting edge research. The program and
curriculum offered are designed to strategically utilize the unique physical,
human and cultural resources of Costa Rica and will be modeled on the research
based successful practices of inquiry, cooperative learning and technology
integration. The academic experiences also will allow the full exposure to the
political, economic, cultural, and social institutions of Costa Rica.
Consider
joining the brightest and best of all science educators on this exceptional
field study expedition hosted by NSTA and Holbrook this summer 2009. It will
truly be a summer to remember.
See
you in Costa Rica!
