Our workshops model the types of field data gathering techniques you can use when taking any field trips around your school and around the world. We make sure the activities you experience in the field are easy to apply back in your classroom. This is accomplished by making sure all teachers in our institutes develop a strong familiarity with mapping data in a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or computerized mapping software. GIS opens up worlds of content and projects for students to interact with. Easily available data helps students learn concepts in geography, science, and mathematics while modeling how to use field based observations in your daily classroom. The strength of GIS Studies is that students can see large amounts of data as patterns in relation to other features such as weather, climate, geology, biomes, and human settlement across the globe.
