Peru Birding with Lahontan Audubon Society
December 26, 2012 - January 05, 2013
Once occupied by the innovative people of the
Inca civilization and presently inhabited by
the largest number of regional bird species
in the world, Peru is considered to be one of
the most biologically diverse and culturally
monumental destinations. A country of
tremendous contrasts, this 11-day program
takes you along an arid coastline, over high
mountain peaks, and deep inside the belly of
the world’s largest canyon. Participants are
offered unique observations of rare, endemic,
and endangered bird species in their natural
habitats. On the way, cruise through Lake
Titicaca and discover the artisanship and
anthropology of the native Uros Islanders.
While visiting Machu Picchu, Cusco, and
the Sacred Valley meet Inca descendants
and learn how they strive to keep ancient
languages and traditions alive. This journey
overwhelms with intimate demonstrations
of indigenous culture and invites visitors to
share in the textured mystery crowning this
Mesoamerican Mecca.
